Children’s Privacy
Skaboom Studios games are made for a mixed audience, which means children may play them. This notice explains, in plain language, what we do differently for younger players. It supplements our Privacy Policy and follows the US Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), the Google Play Families Policy, Apple’s Kids Category requirements, and the GDPR rules on children’s data.
1. How we tell who is a child
Where a title targets a mixed audience we present a neutral age screen on first launch, before any data is collected, and we do not store the birth date itself — only whether the session should run in child mode. We also honour the signals the platforms give us, such as Google Play’s child-directed treatment flag and a supervised Family Link or Apple Family Sharing account. Child mode is remembered locally so the screen is not shown repeatedly.
2. What child mode changes
In child mode we flag every ad request as child-directed and tagged for users under the age of consent, so our ad partners serve only non-personalised, family-rated ads. Analytics run without advertising identifiers and are used purely to count aggregate events like level completions. Sign-in, leaderboards, and cloud save are hidden, and progress stays on the device. Links out of the game — including any link to this website or to a store page — are removed or placed behind a parental gate.
3. Information collected from children
Limited to what is strictly needed to run the game: device model and operating system version for compatibility, app version, coarse country for language and legal compliance, crash diagnostics, and anonymous gameplay counters. This is used only for internal operation and support. It is never used to build a profile, target advertising, or contact the child, and it is never disclosed to third parties except the service providers listed in our Privacy Policy, who act on our instructions.
4. Parental rights
As a parent or legal guardian you may ask us what data we hold relating to your child’s use of a game, ask us to delete it, or refuse any further collection — the game will keep working in a fully local mode. Write to hello@skaboomstudios.com with the game name and the device, or use the data deletion request page. We may need one or two details to confirm you are the parent of the account in question, we will never ask for more information than that verification requires, and we answer within 30 days.
5. Our ad partners in child mode
We work only with networks that support child-directed serving — currently Google AdMob and, where used, Unity Ads — and we enable their child-directed and under-age-of-consent settings for every request made in child mode. We do not use ad mediation partners that cannot honour those settings, and we review the ad categories available to family titles.
6. If we ever collect something we shouldn’t
We do not knowingly collect personal information from a child beyond what is described here. If we learn that a child has provided personal information — for example by signing in with an email address before child mode was set — we delete it promptly and switch the session to child mode. If you believe this has happened, tell us and we will act immediately.
7. Changes
If our practices for children change we will update this page and its date, and we will not apply a materially different practice to data already collected from a child without a new notice to parents.
hello@skaboomstudios.com — put “Parent request” in the subject line and we will prioritise it.
